San Diego Walk to Honor Memories and Celebrate Living

San Diego Walk to Honor Memories and Celebrate LivingIn life people come along that leave an indelible mark in the hearts and minds of those whose paths they cross. Melisa Reasner McGuire was one of those remarkable people. Her name graces the first-ever San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine fundraising walk: Melisa’s Memorial 5K Walk and Fun Run, set for February 6, 2010.

Melisa was known as a compassionate, caring young woman – an outstanding intellect with incredible business acumen. Melisa passed away at age 37 in December of 2002, following a valiant battle with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Melisa’s Memorial 5K Walk and Fun Run will celebrate the lives of loved ones and help those in our community in need of the compassionate, expert medical care available through San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine.

Helping those in need is one of Melisa’s lasting legacies and her insightful words inspire all to celebrate living:

“Be alive to what exists around you. Dream of change, set goals. Make your dreams become realities. Strive and persist. Succeed in making those dreams come true. Yet, throughout all this, always be happy, though never complacent, in and with the present. Appreciate the gifts you have now, for they are many. Now, go and change your world. You can. You only have to try.” -Melisa at age 17
