Drug Recalls and Safety Alerts: Resources for Caregivers, Patients and Parents

-Melissa DelaCalzada

If you are a caregiver caring for aging parents, patients, disabled individuals in need of your assistance, or even the parent or guardian of children, it’s important to keep informed about drug recalls and safety alerts.

Drug Recalls and Safety Alerts Resources for CaregiversIn a previous post, we talked about family caregivers as healthcare advocates. If you are caring for someone who is taking multiple drugs for their health needs, The Food and Drug Administration usually provides news alerts about drug recalls through media outlets, as well as on their website.

Like the recent drug recall for certain types of childrens’ medications, recalls can run the gamut from prescription drugs to over-the-counter medications, so always be alert and check the medications that are taken regularly. Make sure to ask your pharmacist or doctor if you have any questions regarding the medications that are being consumed by either you or those you are caring for, and be an informed healthcare consumer.
