About

The Caregiver’s Corner is dedicated to all the amazing people who are caring for someone with a serious or terminal illness. This site is a place for caregivers – or anyone interested in caregiving or healthcare topics – to come and get answers, find new information, learn about resources, and explore hospice and palliative care as a healthcare option.

We appreciate the effort and dedication it takes to care for someone in need of assistance and we understand how strenuous it can be for caregivers – physically and emotionally. We want you to know that you are not alone.

At San Diego Hospice, we value the opportunity to provide guidance, support and assistance as needed. We’ve been honored to provide our services to those in need for nearly 35 years, and earning the community’s trust as a leading healthcare resource. We want to offer insight into how we partner with patients and their loved ones to relieve pain and suffering and promote quality of life at every stage of life. By discussing San Diego Hospice and encouraging conversations about end-of-life care, our goal is to remove the mystery and guess work that surrounds hospice and palliative care.

Throughout my 20-year history with San Diego Hospice, the one thing I hear most often from patients and family members is “I wish I would have known about hospice sooner…”

Our goal with The Caregiver’s Corner is to provide information, resources, and support as needed, as you embark on your journey in caring for those in need of your assistance. Understanding the choices available as a healthcare consumer is one way to better care for our loved ones.

We have a hospital bed in excellent condition that we would like to donate. Do you know of anyone in the Escondido area? or where is your center located?

  2. Hi Catherine,

Let me check on a couple of resources for your request and get back to you. I will email you when I have information.

  3. Would you please consider adding my blog to your list under “Blog Roll”?

I care for my 82 year old Dad with Alzheimer’s. He lives with me in North Carolina and my blog shows the “lighter” (and sometimes downright funny) side of caring for my Dad.

If you have any questions, please contact me at Kathy@KnowItAlz.com.

    Thank you!
    Kathy

  4. Kathy,
Thank you for sharing your resource and insight with our readers!

  5. If you are looking to donate a hospital bed or other supplies/equipment, you can check out http://www.elderpost.com/. I have not used the site yet, but it seems helpful.

  6. A short article I wrote, entitled “A Terminal Diagnosis Does Not Terminate Life,” was published online today (3-3-12) in Power Women Magazine (http://powerwomenmag.com/2012/03/a-terminal-diagnosis-does-not-terminate-living/), and it may provide some insights and tips (for injecting living into dying) that those who are caring for a terminally ill loved one will find helpful and hopeful.

My terminally ill mother died in September 2009, and my experience with her during her last year was the basis for the article. After she died, my grief found expression on the pages of what would become a memoir about love and loss, grief and gratitude. Published in August 2011, WHEN ALL THAT’S LEFT OF ME IS LOVE is much more about living and loving than about dying and grieving, though it is proving helpful to those who are anticipating death or grieving loss. It is fundamentally about living fully and joyfully even while anticipating death.

If you are interested, you may read more about it at http://www.lindacampanella.tateauthor.com. Perhaps you would consider including it among San Diego Hospice’s end-of-life reading options.

  7. Thank you, Linda, for sharing your story.
